Engulfed in smoke and broken-hearted, the Empire State Building laments. Chrysler Building, you see, was no longer his. And the summer of ’39 hit him hard, as his empty floors and penniless disposition affirmed. It was the end of a long, lonely decade for the “Empty” State Building. Chrysler really had no other choice but to look elsewhere.
And out of the ashes of the Great Depression came 30 Rock, a newer more buoyant symbol of architectural optimism. 30 Rock was an Art Deco Playboy catching the eye of every building in the city, including the Empire’s beloved Chrysler.
But Empire State and Chrysler tried to keep things steady, so they went to the beach. It seemed the whole city was at Coney Island that day, when only the breeze of the speedy Cyclone could remind you of what cool really felt like. But Chrysler Building disappeared again. Empire State searched everywhere for his muse.
Looking back, he should have just walked away forever when he saw Chrysler and 30 Rock sharing the front row seat of the Cyclone together, a ride of a lifetime that he was not part of. Empire State was just a teenager then, but he felt the entire weight of the city on his rafters. Life, he learned, could be a very grim thing.
And now, sitting in a cold and barren room with a drink and smoke, The Empire State Building laments; carrying with him memories, love, loss, and a choice to stand tall as a building on his own again.

Rainbow Room - 10:05 p.m.
After a busy day of meetings, benefits, and appearances, Chrysler Building seems poised to wind down, or so it seems.
She rejoins Empire State Building for dinner in the Rainbow Room at 8:45 p.m. The place is filled with the rich and powerful, but everyone seems to notice these buildings’ combined star power, which becomes more apparent when Rockefeller Center shows up to personally greet them.
As the clock strikes ten, the music gets louder and the place is now packed. I soon notice Empire State Building on one corner of the bar, as Chrysler and Rockefeller Center move away to the other side; Chrysler’s twinkle brighter than ever. Suddenly, the two buildings sneak a toast and a kiss. I quickly turn to find a visibly shocked Empire State Building, as he too witnessed the act.
Why doesn’t Chrysler Building seem to care if all of New York is staring? To find that out, I must dig deeper into this architectural love triangle. I needed answers, and Empire State Building was
going to give me them...
